The quaint town of Lansdowne is situated at an elevation of 1780 m above sea level. It boosts of being one of the quietest and unspoilt hill stations of India. Lansdowne encompasses thick oak and blue pine forests offering vivid and striking views. This beautiful place is well known for tranquil and calm holidays as it is devoid of usual bustlings of other hill stations.
Originally Lansdwone was a popular hill station with the British. It was founded by the then Viceroy Lord Lansdowne in 1887. The town was developed by the British for catering for the Recruits Training center of Garhwal Rifles. Nowadays, the famous Garhwal Rifles of Indian Army has its command office here.
1. The Garhwal Rifles Regimental War Memorial
The War Memorial, at the Parade ground of the Garhwal Rifles has its own charisma and is the towns main crowd - pleaser. Also situated there is Darwan Singh Sangrahalaya (Museum); One will be filled with gratitude on the visit (named after the first Victoria Cross Holder from Garhwal Rifles, Darwan Singh Negi). As it houses numerous artefacts, old barrels, guns, machine artillery and facts depicting the history of Garhwal Rifles and contribution to Indian Army over the years of its formation.
2. St John's Church
St John’s Church is yet another concealed jewel relaxing in lap of Lansdowne. A Catholic Church of historical importance, constructed in 1895 during the British Era, one needs to take the steep drive through Bhulla Tal to get here.
3. Bhulla Tal
A well maintained calm and untroubled lake located just 1 km away from main Lansdowne market. It was constructed and is maintained by Indian Army. It offers an alike all day fun to young & old both. With the park on its side, children can enjoy fun rides available and adults can indulge in small souvenir shop, nursery and Café.
4. Tarkeshwar Temple
Tarkeshwar Mahadev is a village 36 kms from Lansdowne and at a ht of 2010m. As the name suggests, temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It’s surrounded by thick forests of Devdar and Pine, offering one tranquility and quietness. (it is one of the famous temple of Uttrakhand State.) It is 1500 year old plus shrine according to saints residing there.
5. Tip-N-Top Point
As the name suggests, it is the highest places in Lansdowne. It surely is best place in Lansdowne to watch complete skyline of majestic Shivalik Range. At 1700m height, visitor experience unparalleled beauty of town.
